All students in the district are permitted to borrow books from the library unless the librarian or parents revoke that privilege.
A daily library fine will be charged for all materials which are returned late. The computer will calculate the fine according to the book’s original due date assigned at the time of checkout.
Students are not permitted to checkout books which are damaged. This would include food / dirt stains, severely torn pages, a broken spine, major pencil/pen markings, or a damaged cover. All damage outside the definition of normal wear or tear, must be reported to the librarian. At this time, the library staff will initial the damage or remove the book from circulation to be repaired. This procedure will prevent students from
removing damaged books from the library. This will also prevent students from saying “It was that way when I got it”.
When books are returned by students, they will be scanned back into the collection and examined for any damage. If the book has sustained any major damage, a bill will be generated and mailed home to the parents. Keep in mind, the student who checked out the book is responsible for the book until it is returned to the library. Parents will have two weeks to pay for the replacement of the book plus a $3.00 processing fee. Once the payment has been received, the barcode will be removed from the damaged book and it will be sent home with the student.
Books which are more than one month overdue will be considered lost and a bill will be generated. We cannot accept returned books after the payment has been forwarded to the business office and the record removed from the library database.
Payments must be in the form of a check made payable to “Union School District”. Please do not send cash to school with your child.
