February 22, 2021
Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,
This morning, February 22, 2021, our area received a weather event in excess of forecasted amounts which arrived at the most inopportune time for our local schools. Local school district leaders monitor weather reports, share information between districts, and communicate with road crews to determine road conditions in making decisions to operate on-time, delay, or cancel. Decisions are made prior to 5:30 AM in most cases, as buses start their morning trips shortly thereafter. This morning, unfortunately, the weather event experienced by our area started at that 5:30 AM time and continued through our school starting time making for a slippery commute. Fortunately, our transportation contractors are skilled drivers who follow all safety precautions and are dedicated to safely transporting every student to and from our facilities. Each of vehicles completed their routes safely and securely for the day. I offer my sincerest apologies for any stress or anxiety that the morning commute may have caused anyone from our district and I assure you that we continue to utilize all the tools at our disposal in making decisions for the safety and security of our district’s students.
Sincerely,
Mr. John Kimmel
Superintendent
Union School District
