What is P-EBT?
In the spring of 2020, the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program was created to support families with the purchase of food while schools were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, more P-EBT funds are being released for families. Since Union School District is a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, all 2020-2021 Union School District students will be eligible to receive P-EBT benefits for the days that students did not receive in-person instruction.
What to expect?
You will receive a letter from the Department of Human Services containing information about the P-EBT program. The letter will explain the program, where and how to use the card, how to create a PIN, what items are eligible to purchase, and who to contact with questions. For students who currently receive SNAP or TANF benefits, if possible, the benefits will be loaded onto their current SNAP EBT card. Otherwise, each student will receive a new card, even if they received a card in the spring of 2020. The card will be in the student’s name and will be sent from Texas in a non- descript white envelope.
When will benefits be issued?
Benefits will be issued in three increments.
- First benefit transfer – mid-May for the months of September 2020 through November 2020.
- Second benefit transfer – June for the months of December 2020 through February 2021.
- Third benefit transfer – July for the months of March 2021 through May 2021.
How much will each student receive?
Since benefit amounts are determined by the number of days a student is not receiving in-person instruction, benefit amounts will vary for each student, even between siblings. Union School District will not be able to provide you with your benefit amount.
