This month Netflix, the popular online movie site, released Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why, a teen drama focusing on suicide and other mental health related issues. Last year the series generated a lot of interest based in part on its controversial approach. Union School District makes no recommendation on the appropriateness of the program.

We do, however, want to make you aware of resources available should you choose to view the program. In coordination with our Student Assistance Program program liaisons at the Center for Community Resources (CCR) we refer you to a toolkit of resources provided by the Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAFE). They offer materials that "help to encourage conversations, identify those at risk and prevent unexpected tragedies." The toolkit can be accessed at www.13reasonswhytoolkit.org.

If you have further questions about the series, contact the school guidance or high school offices. If someone is in crisis, contact the emergency number, 814-226-7223, at CCR or call 911 and ask for Crisis.
