Dear Parent/Guardian

A father/male role model who actively participates in the educational and social development life of a child is invaluable and irreplaceable.  A 2004 summary study by The Parent Institute showed that at schools where teachers reported high levels of outreach to parents, reading scores grew at a rate 50 percent higher, and math tests scores 40 percent higher, than in schools where teachers reported low levels of outreach.  

On Thursday, September 18, 2025 we are participating in the event National Fathers Take Your Children to School Day at Sligo Elementary for students in grades K-2!  On Friday, September 19, 2025 we are participating in the event National Fathers Take Your Children to School Day at Sligo Elementary for students in grades 3-5.  A participant could be the father, grandfather, foster father, stepfather, uncle, cousin, male caregiver, mentor that assumes the role of being active in the development of the child.  All participants that bring their child to school will receive a FREE breakfast prepared by our cafeteria staff.  Breakfast will begin at 7:10 a.m. and end at 8:00 a.m..

The administration, teachers, and support staff would like to thank you for the commitment that you have shown to our school and the boys and girls that you influence.  We look forward to sharing this day and recognizing your male influence in the lives of our students.  Please know that all role models will be screened using our Raptor system.  Please have your driver's license available for our School Police Officers.  I appreciate your patience as we fulfill our obligation to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students.
