Dear Parents/Guardians

As many of you know, our region will experience a nearly full eclipse of the sun on April 8th. The solar eclipse is to peak at 3:22 in the afternoon. While the total solar eclipse is not expected to cross over the Rimersburg and Sligo areas, it will occur in nearby communities such as Titusville and Meadville.

This is a historic event, and we find great educational value in students and families experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime event. Given the rarity of the event, students at both Union High School and Sligo Elementary will be able to have a “Principal Excused” day beginning at 11:30 AM. This half-day excuse will not count towards the maximum of 10 parent/guardian excused days.

All operations of the district will run as normal on this day as classes and bus runs will continue at their regularly scheduled times. If you and your children are going to take advantage of the opportunity to take a “Principal Excused” ½ day we ask that you provide each building's main office with an excuse at your earliest convenience. Students will not be dismissed early without an excuse from their parent or guardian.

Sincerely,

Dr. John Kimmel
